Sally's by the Sea, a Hidden Gem of San Diego

Bernie and I have recently been re-introduced to a local restaurant that deserves to be written about and fits into what the Sybarite is all about. The restaurant I'm talking about is Sally's Seafood on the Water located in Seaport Village in downtown San Diego. The intimate atmosphere and beautiful view of the bay is only a bonus compared to the food they serve. All food is freshly served by a very personable staff that goes out of their way to assure that you are comfortably dining. Brent, the executive chef at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, guarantees his guests that they will receive a new culinary experience with each visit. "Cooking is primarily about flavors-isolating them, maximizing them and combining them." Along with Chef Sarah Linkenheil, they do just that. Sarah, Sally's "Chef de Cuisine" and a winner of the San Diego Food and Wine Festival's "Chef of the Fest" award, uses her thirteen years of culinary expertise to assure that Sally's Restaurant philosophy of sustainability through food is achieved. By maintaining close relationships with small farmers and food producers, they ensure that the food they serve is safe and grown with the finest of standards.

Because of its location, Sally's receives most recognition through tourists but it definitely deserves local trade based on its food and atmosphere alone. When we went with our friends Steve and Marilynn, who seek out and truly understand good seafood, we were all delighted with the entrees we chose. Bernie ordered the best fish and chips both of us have ever tasted. She shared them with me because Sally's chefs are all about sharing. From their well-known crab cakes to their delicious lemon mousse cake, the chefs at Sally's provide recipes of their favorite dishes on the Sally's website so you can even try cooking them at home. But really, why bother when the ambiance of Sally's is as good as it is you won't want to eat their food anywhere else!

You can check out Sally's website here for more information. You can also check out their facebook and twitter accounts. We know you'll enjoy!
